Spring Green

About Spring Green

Morning arrives wide in Plainfield — prairie light coming up over the West Branch of the DuPage River, dew still holding every blade upright. Spring Green works that hour, mowing and edging and trimming while the grass stands at its best, then reads the season for what it needs next: fertilization timed to the long Illinois stretch between the last frost and the first hard one, weed control before the summer heat sets its jaw. A lawn off Lockport Street and a lawn out where the subdivisions meet the corn are two different animals, and both get looked at before anything gets cut. The reward is in the finish — a stripe laid true across the front, an edge snapped clean along the walk, the drive blown off so the only evidence left is a yard that looks like it grew that way. Spring and fall cleanups bookend the year, and the place gets handed from one season to the next without a loose end.
