About Steve Benesh & Sons

A February night in Ogle County can come in without a sound and leave six inches behind, and Oregon wakes as a town of hills — streets tilting down toward the bridge, driveways that ask something of a car with cold tires. That is the hour this work belongs to: headlights in falling snow, the blade dropping, a clean stripe opening from the garage door to the street before the coffee is finished anywhere on the block. Steve Benesh & Sons plows, shovels and salts for homes and businesses around Oregon and the Ogle County towns nearby, walks cut down to the concrete and ice knocked back at the apron where it always forms first. By full light the courthouse square looks ordinary again, which is the entire point. Nobody thanks a plowed drive; they just go to work.
