About Bareco Enterpises

In Oquawka the Mississippi sets the terms of winter. When the river runs slate-colored and the fog comes off the water and freezes onto whatever it touches, the streets that slope down toward the landing turn glassy by four in the morning. Bareco Enterpises works those hours, pushing back the night's accumulation and opening drives, lots and walkways so the town can get out to the highway and on with its day. There is a plain satisfaction in pavement scraped down clean with the banks squared off at the edges, finished while most of Henderson County is still asleep. By the time first light finds the water, the work reads as though the snow simply skipped this block.
