Oak Park lies flat as a tabletop except where Scoville Park lifts a little above Lake Street, and on a July evening the whole village seems to tilt toward that green rise. Gabriel's LawnCare LLC works the hours on either side of that light — mowing, trimming and edging while the day runs long, then plowing and shoveling once the sun quits at four-thirty. There is a particular pleasure in the final pass of a mower, when the stripes line up and the yard goes quiet behind you. Winter asks for the same eye: a walk taken down to the concrete, the corners squared, salt laid before the melt refreezes. Same streets, same houses, a different tool in hand.
