Oak Park keeps its working life in the alleys — brick garages, gravel aprons, the narrow lanes behind every block where the village actually gets things done. AMJ Landscaping LLC works both ends of that year: the mower in summer, the plow once the lanes fill in. There is a real satisfaction in an alley opened up before the first car needs it, and another in a June lawn brought down to one even tone with the parkway edge cut clean. Late February is the turn — old snowpack shrinking off the curbs, the first smell of wet ground coming back into the air.
