Lake Lou Yaeger lies just east of North Litchfield, and the mornings that come off it are cool and thick with mist until the sun burns through. Derfs lawn care and some works the yards on that side of town — mowing, string trimming along foundations and fences, edging the walks, raking out whatever autumn dumps in the corners. Grass grows fast on this Montgomery County ground, and staying ahead of it is most of the job. The result is plain enough: a lawn cut end to end, the lines even, nothing shaggy left behind the shed. North Litchfield and the neighboring towns are where the trailer goes.
