The Green Bay Trail runs the old rail line straight through New Trier Township, and in October the whole corridor turns to copper and rustle as commuters pass under it. Lieder's lawn care and landscaping works the properties on either side of that line, where deep front lawns meet brick walks and hedges that have been growing since before anyone's memory. Mowing, edging, trimming, landscape bed upkeep and leaf cleanup carry a yard from the last warm cut into the bare, tidy quiet of November. Autumn here is mostly a matter of leaves — enormous quantities of them — and there is a plain pride in handing back a lawn that is finally, completely clear. The grass underneath is still green, and it stays that way well past the first frost.
