The Lincoln Highway came through here long before the subdivisions did, and New Lenox still measures itself along that east-west run. Lincolnway Landscape keeps the properties on either side of it looking tended — mowing, trimming, edging and seasonal cleanups from the first flush of green to the last leaf down. Winter turns the same route into plow work: driveways cleared, walkways opened, salt on the ice that forms where the road wind cuts across. Route 30 does not pause for weather, and neither do the people living along it. A cleared drive at daybreak is a small thing that decides how an entire day goes.
