About Vlahos Bros

Saturday runs long in Morton in June — light until nine, ball games going at the park, somebody's radio on down the block. Vlahos Bros spends those days on lawns: mowing, trimming around fences and swing sets, edging the drive, and carrying the clippings off so the yard is ready for whoever wants to cross it barefoot. Two hands are good, four are better, and the pace holds steady from the first house on the list to the last. There is a plain pleasure in backing the trailer up at dusk knowing every yard behind you looks the way it ought to. Morton, Groveland, and the streets in between.
