The Iroquois River takes its slow bend past Middleport under willows that lean out over the water, and the ground on either side is about as flat and black as ground gets. Gold's Mowing keeps the yards on it — mowing, trimming, edging, and cleanups when the season changes hands. Soil like this grows grass fast, and after a wet week the whole town seems to need cutting on the same day. Feeding and weed control through the summer hold the color when July turns hard. A lawn mown to an even nap, the walk edged and the clippings gone, looks like somebody meant it.
