July out toward Lake Mattoon is heavy weather — still air over the water, thunderheads building somewhere west by mid-afternoon, and lawns that need cutting whether or not anybody wants to be outside. Savage lawn care runs through the thick of it, mowing at heights that let turf hold its color under the sun, trimming out the edges the mower cannot reach, and keeping the borders sharp where grass would happily swallow a walk. Between storms the grass shoots up, and staying on schedule through that stretch is most of the battle. Every visit ends the same way, with the drives and sidewalks cleared so the yard is the only thing showing. Come the cooler evenings of September, a lawn kept honestly through the heat looks like it never struggled at all.
