Marion grew up at a crossing — Interstate 57 running north and south, Route 13 running east into the old coal country — and traffic there keeps its own schedule no matter what the sky is doing. Accelerated Excavation works the hours on either side of that traffic, pushing lots wide open and cutting clean lanes to every door while the streetlights are still the only light in town. Storms in this corner of Illinois tend to arrive wet and heavy, the kind that loads a blade and then glazes hard by morning, so pavement gets scraped down to black and the ice held back with a measured spread of salt. There is real satisfaction in a lot that looks like the weather skipped it: corners squared, piles stacked out of the sightlines, the surface steaming faintly in the first sun. Marion starts moving early, and this is the work that lets it.
