Route 38 runs straight through Maple Park the way old highways do, and the village sits along it in a few tidy blocks of green. Axolotl landscaping mows and trims those yards all summer, when corn stands tall on every side of town and the lawns are about the only short grass for miles. Edging along walks and drives is what separates a mowed yard from a finished one, so it happens each visit. Evenings out here go gold and then violet, and a lawn cut that afternoon looks best right at the end of it. Small village, wide sky, and grass that looks like somebody meant it.
