A corner lot is twice the sidewalk and twice the eyes on it, and there are plenty of them on the older streets of Maine Township. Sam's lawn mowing takes the ordinary yards, the tidy front, the fenced back, the strip beside the garage, and cuts them even, trims them close and sweeps the concrete afterward. Saturday starts early, before the heat, when the grass has dried just enough to cut cleanly. There is no mystery to any of it: show up when you say, mow it straight, leave behind nothing but a fresh smell and clean lines. Streets look after themselves once enough yards are kept that way.
