Downtown Lockport still runs along State Street in limestone and brick, and on a Saturday morning the whole town seems to be out walking it. The blocks behind it are older and shadier, and Hoppy's Landscaping Inc keeps those lawns honest — mowing, trimming, edging, and sweeping the walks clean afterward. Shade turf is its own puzzle: thinner grass, more leaf litter, roots close to the surface, and a mower that has to respect all three. Fall means the cleanup, and there are a lot of leaves in that part of town. Done right, a yard down there looks like it belongs to the street it sits on.
