Lansing sits up on the old sand ridge with cool air coming down off the lake, and its blocks of brick houses wear their front lawns like a good coat. W Hawkins Management keeps them that way — mowing through the long green stretch from April into October, trimming along the steps and the garage aprons, edging where the turf meets the sidewalk squares. Village lots are small and close together, so the details are the whole job; a missed strip along a fence shows from three houses down.
