La Grange keeps its alleys, and there is a whole second town back there — garage doors, garden gates, silver maples leaning over the fence line. Forrest Lawns works both sides of that, the front lawn that faces the street and the back yard only the neighbors see, cutting each to the same finish. Trimming reaches the places a mower cannot: along the garage slab, around the birdbath, behind the gate post. When the maples let go in October the cleanups begin and run through the last gray Saturday of the month. A yard that ends the year swept clean starts the next one strong, and the blocks toward Hodgkins and Indian Head Park get the same treatment.
