About Keith's Cartage & Excavating, Inc.

A cartage and excavating outfit spends its working life moving heavy material from one place to another, and in a Keith winter the heaviest material around is snow. The work often begins in the dark, while the storm is still blowing across flat Illinois ground and drives and lots are vanishing under it. The aim is plain: open pavement by the time people need it, with the piles pushed well back so they don't creep across the lanes again. When the plowing is done and daylight comes up on a black, scraped surface, nobody needs it explained. It's the same instinct behind the rest of the business, putting the ground where it ought to be, turned on the hardest weather of the year.
