About Yohns and gardens

The name says gardens, and in Keene that means the lawn is only half the picture. Yohns and gardens tends grass alongside the growing things that border it, so a mowed yard meets its beds cleanly instead of spilling into them. Evening is the hour to see it, when low sun warms the tops of the plantings and fresh-cut grass lends the air that sweet green smell. Spring is the busiest stretch, with everything waking at once and every bed needing its border drawn again. Call it mowing with a gardener's eye, in a small place that still makes room for flowers.
