There is a turn in late autumn out on the county roads between Highland and St. Jacob when the fields go bare, the light gets thin, and everybody starts watching the forecast. Vosholler Lawn & Landscape works both sides of that turn — mowing, trimming and edging through the green months, then plowing, shoveling and salting once the first storm crosses Madison County. Winters here are unpredictable more than fierce, mixing snow with ice, which makes an early start and a return trip worth more than a bigger blade. A drive opened before breakfast and a walk that is not slick underfoot are simple things people remember all season. Then spring comes back around and the mowers start again, and the whole cycle takes another lap.
