The Illinois River makes its long bend at Hennepin, and come April the bottoms run brown while the sycamores stand in water for a week at a stretch. AAA Tree Service works the high ground and the town above it — pruning the hard maples around the courthouse square, trimming crowns back off porch roofs, removing whatever the spring wind has loosened. Every job in Putnam County gets measured twice, because a lot here can have a house on one side and a long drop to the water on the other. After a line of storms the cleanup goes in the same sequence: the road first, then the yard, then the last of the brush loaded out. Hennepin, Granville, Putnam, Standard and Mark are a few minutes out.
