Southeast of town the Shawnee tips up into sandstone — bluffs and hollows that hold their weather a little longer than the flat ground does. Stone's Outdoor Services works the yards between here and there, mowing, edging and trimming through the growing months and running cleanups at both ends of the year. When the cold arrives it becomes snow plowing, walkway clearing and salting, the early-morning sort of work that's finished before anyone notices it began. A place looks the way it ought to in July and stays passable in January, which is the entire point. Two seasons of work, one set of hands.
