Late in the day, when the sun drops toward the fields west of Grover, mower stripes show across a lawn like corduroy. Zebra Lawn and Landscape chases that look — straight passes, clean turns, trim work tight to the fence posts and foundations. Yards around Grover and the neighboring communities get mowed, edged and cleared of clippings on a rhythm the grass itself sets. In high summer the lawn writes a new page every five days, and the job is simply to answer it. The stripes fade by morning and then it all begins again, which is half the pleasure of the work.
