There is no traffic in Girard at four in the morning, which is exactly why the sound of a plow carries so far — one truck working through a sleeping prairie town, blade down, headlights full of falling snow. PickUp My Stuff runs that route: driveways and parking areas cleared, sidewalks and doorways shoveled, salt down on the steps and the shaded stretches that never see sun in January. Out here the fields hand the wind whatever it asks for, and a drive that was open at dawn can drift shut by mid-morning, so coming back is part of the job rather than an extra.
