Come July the Little Vermilion runs low and warm south of Georgetown, and the air holds its heat well past supper, so the good working hours land early and late. EZ HOME and LAWN SERVICE takes them: mowing at a set interval, trimming around foundations, posts and mailboxes, edging where the grass tries to climb the concrete. When the season swings, cleanups take the yard down to bare ground — spring's winter debris in one direction, October's leaves in the other. East-central Illinois grows grass with real enthusiasm, and staying ahead of it is most of the craft. The best part of the job is the last look back at a lawn that finally matches the house it belongs to.
