Winkler Tree & Lawn Care

About Winkler Tree & Lawn Care

Morning arrives in Evanston off the lake first, a pale light that crosses Sheridan Road and filters down through the elms and oaks before it ever reaches the grass. Winkler Tree & Lawn Care keeps the lawns under that canopy: the deep-shade strips beside brick two-flats, the open yards running west toward the North Shore Channel, the parkway grass that meets the sidewalk in a line you can read from the corner. Mowing, edging, trimming, feeding and seasonal cleanup — most of it is patience, repeated, until a yard looks like somebody loves it. There is a real pleasure in the last pass on an August evening, when the light comes sideways off the water and the cut rows go gold. By November the leaves come down by the armload, and the work turns to clearing them off the turf before the first hard freeze locks them in place. It is steady, ordinary care for an old tree town, done block by block.
