Elmhurst wakes early in spring — the beds at Wilder Park come into color, and the town named for its elms trades gray for green in a matter of days. JP's Landscaping Inc opens the season on that turn: the first mow at the right height, winter debris raked out, edges recut where sod has crept over the walk. From there it is the weekly round through a long Midwest growing season — mowing, trimming and clearing until the ground quiets down in November. Older yards on these streets have grade and character, and working with them takes more looking than muscling. The payoff shows from the sidewalk, which is where a lawn actually gets seen.
