Up at the north end of town, Trout Park keeps its ravines cold long after the rest of Elgin has thawed, spring water running in February and frost sitting in the low folds. Mike's Plowing, Tree & Lawn Svs works that end of the weather with a blade in winter and a mower in summer, and takes both seriously. A drive scraped down to bare concrete, a lawn cut level and trimmed close to the foundation: different tools, same result. Snow gets pushed where it will not slide back across the apron when the sun finally reaches it. In July the same house gets a clean line along the walk and the clippings swept off the drive.
