Come April the redbuds open along the roads south of Eldorado and every yard in town wakes up at once. Lakeland Lawn meets that first flush head-on — the season's opening mow, the winter litter raked out, the grass brought back to an even height before it can get ahead of anybody. Saline County ground grows things eagerly once the rain sets in, and staying in front of it week after week is most of the work. The reward is ordinary and worth having: a lawn that looks cared for from the road, edges held straight, corners never skipped.
