Down along the Little Wabash the ground stays low and damp, and grass there grows thick enough to bog a mower if it gets ahead of you. L & C Lawn Care does not let it, with weekly cutting, trimming along the fence rows, edging where lawn meets concrete, and cleanups at both ends of the season. June evenings in Effingham come on warm and still, and the smell of fresh clippings hangs over a yard until dark. Some of that is simply how a well-kept place feels to stand in. The rest is somebody turning up on the same day every week.
