April above the Mississippi: the ice goes out, the eagles head north, and the first green shows on the warm south-facing slopes over Dunleith while the hollows are still brown and waiting. Spring Green opens the season there — clearing winter's litter off the lawns, taking that first ragged growth down to an even height, cutting the walk edges back into view. From then on it settles into a weekly rhythm of mowing and trimming that carries clear through to the fall leaf work. Nothing announces that a place is looked after quite like a lawn already cut and edged the week the rest of the street is still hunting for the pull cord.
