About Danes Outdoor Solutions

Three in the morning, and the river fog has come up out of the bottoms and frozen onto everything it touched. That is when Danes Outdoor Solutions is already moving — plow down, headlights swinging across the drifts on the bluff-side drives above Dunleith, salt going down where the grade is steep enough to matter. In this stretch of the Mississippi valley one driveway faces straight into the north wind while the next lies in shade until March, so each one gets treated as its own problem. Walks and steps are cleared by hand, because a plow cannot do everything a person needs done. The measure of the night is simple: somebody walks out at six, sees black pavement, and gets to work without thinking about it once.
