Joliet Plowers

About Joliet Plowers

Weather reaches Du Page from the west with nothing much to slow it down — open farm ground, then rooftops, then the storm at the door. Joliet Plowers watches that line come in and loads up before it lands, then works the night through: plowing drives and lots, clearing walkways, salting the spots where meltwater will refreeze by dawn. Snow removal is a trade measured in hours, and the good hours are the ugly ones, between midnight and sunrise when the wind is still filling in behind the blade. The payoff arrives in daylight — black asphalt, a clean apron at the street, a morning that simply goes ahead as if nothing happened. Storm after storm, that is the errand, across Du Page and the towns beside it.
