On a snowy evening downtown, the Tivoli's marquee throws a warm block of light across Main Street and the flakes come down through it in slow spirals. Wingren Landscape is out in that weather and long after it, plowing driveways and lots, clearing sidewalks and stairs, salting the brick and concrete where the melt refreezes once the temperature drops. Downers Grove's streets bend and dip enough that there are always shaded stretches that never quite let go of their ice, and those want a second look before morning. A cleared drive and a bare walk are a small kindness handed to somebody hours before they are even awake. That is the whole point of the work, and it is worth getting up for.
