Late August in Dorr arrives on cicada noise and long gold light sliding across the bean fields. That is high season for Cruz AC Landscaping and Sealcoating, whose mowers keep the township's yards in order week after week, edges held straight, clippings swept off the concrete before anyone gets home. Then the light goes short and the wind turns, and the same trucks come back with plows to open drives and walks and lay salt where the ice wants to set. It is weather-shaped work, the kind you notice most when a lot is bare at seven in the morning after an overnight storm. Two seasons, one set of hands.
