Saturday morning in a Dixon neighborhood sounds like mowers and a distant train, and the smell of cut grass carries three houses down. That is the good part of this work: mowing, trimming around swing sets and fence posts, edging the front walk, then sweeping the drive so the job looks finished. When the cold arrives the crew trades decks for plows — driveways cleared, front steps shoveled, salt laid on the walk to the door. Two seasons of showing up so a family can get out of the house and get on with the day. Dixon, Nelson, Amboy and Sublette.
