Nothing stands between Dixon and the northwest wind but a few hedgerows and a grain elevator or two, which is why a January snow rarely stays where it fell. Drifting is the real adversary out here, and the plow work answers it: driveways opened wide enough to matter, walks shoveled, salt down on the hardpack the wind polishes smooth. The warm months run the other direction, with mowing, trimming and edging on a set rotation and cleanups at both ends of the growing season. Two different climates, one truck, the same idea — show up and leave the place usable. Dixon, Harmon, Amboy and the county roads around them.
