A yard in this town is really two yards, and Steve's Lawn & Garden looks after both of them. There is the warm one — grass cut and trimmed, edges held sharp, beds kept clear from the first mow to the last leaf raked off the walks downtown near Water Street. Then October tips over, the light goes low and copper across Macon County, and the same ground needs a different kind of care: drives and walks plowed, shoveled and salted so nobody has to guess where the concrete ends. Going back to the same properties season after season means knowing where the water pools, which corner drifts, and where the daffodils are hiding when the blade comes through.
