Auton Services

About Auton Services

West of town the Sangamon slides through its bottomland timber, and the fog it lifts on summer mornings hangs over Decatur yards long after sunrise. Auton Services works that early hour, when the dew still weighs the grass down and the first pass of the mower leaves a dark seam behind it. Mowing, trimming, edging, and the cleanups that bracket an Illinois growing season — that is the whole shape of the work. Decatur summers ask a lot of a lawn: heat that stands still for a week, then a storm that arrives all at once off open ground. There is real satisfaction in a yard that looks intentional by nine o'clock, clippings blown off the walk, the line between grass and drive drawn sharp.
