Collinsville is built on grades — streets that climb from the bottoms to the top of the bluff, yards that go up in terraces behind retaining walls. Mowing a pitch like that asks for a different line, and so does holding the trim straight along a wall that steps three times between the sidewalk and the porch. Every level gets the same treatment: cut, trimmed, edged, swept back to the curb. In winter those same driveways tilt downhill toward the street, so plowing and salting are about giving a car something to hold on the way out. Up a level each season, which is the plan the name has in mind.
