Horseshoe Lake lies west of town in an old channel the Mississippi walked away from, and on cool mornings the mist rises off it and drifts over the whole bottom until the sun cuts it loose. Yards on that side of Collinsville hold their dew late, so an early start is a question of timing as much as ambition. The work is mowing, trimming and edging, with the landscape side alongside it — beds shaped, mulch fresh, shrubs kept in bounds. When the weather flips, that same attention goes into plowing driveways and salting walks so a step out the front door stays a step and not a slide. Green in the one season, clear in the other.
