Clinton Lake spreads out east of town with miles of shoreline and nothing at all to slow the wind coming off it, so a DeWitt County winter morning shows up with an edge on it. Dial Excavating meets those mornings with the plow, opening driveways, lanes and lots, cutting back the drifts that build across an approach, and clearing walks with shovel and grit at the doors. Long country drives are their own problem: they have to be opened wide enough to pass and stacked where the next storm will not simply refill them. There is a plain kind of pride in a lane that is open before anyone needs it. In Clinton, that is most of what winter asks.
