Chillicothe keeps two calendars, and J&D Landscaping LLC works both of them. From the first flush of green along Truitt Avenue to the last load of October leaves, it is mowing, trimming, edging and cleanup. Then the wind swings hard out of the northwest across open ground and the job becomes plowing, shoveling and salting — drives and walks opened before the morning run down to Peoria. There is a quiet satisfaction in a driveway that was white at four and bare at six. Both halves of the year ask the same thing of a crew: show up, and leave the ground better than it was found.
