There is a rose garden in Marquette Park that holds its color deep into August, and the blocks around it — Gage Park, Chicago Lawn, West Lawn — keep their own small greens with something like the same seriousness. Marcelo's Landscaping mows and trims those yards straight through the heat, edging walks and drives so each lot reads clean from the parkway, and clearing everything out at the open and the close of the growing season. Southwest Side lots run narrow and long, which asks for a patient hand along fences and gangways rather than speed. Late-summer grass on this side of town goes tough and dry unless somebody is paying attention to it. Doing it every week is what makes the difference visible.
