Guys Who Clean

About Guys Who Clean

The older blocks near downtown Champaign were laid out when people walked everywhere, and they still have the brick steps, the narrow front walks, the tight side entries where a plow will never fit. Guys Who Clean handles snow at that human scale — shovels and blowers, stoops and walks and the path out to the alley, salted so an afternoon thaw does not become an evening skating rink. Storms here tend to end with a hard northwest wind that fills in whatever was cleared an hour ago, so the second visit is part of the deal. Taking a set of steps down to bare brick is a small, complete thing. It makes a door usable again, which is the entire job.
