Casey sits where the old National Road runs east and west and the interstate hums along just north of town, so winter here is measured in whether people can get to where they are going. Immke Turf Treat works the storm on that schedule, drives opened before the first shift leaves, lots cleared corner to corner, entrances treated so the door mat is the only wet thing anybody tracks in. Snow is pushed off and banked where it will not blind a driver pulling out toward the highway. The walks downtown, past the oversized rocking chair and the wind chime that put this small town on so many maps, are shoveled down to the brick. A place that draws visitors all year deserves to be walkable in January too.
