HMS Hauling

About HMS Hauling

The back half of a storm is the truthful part of the job around Cartwright: the sky clears, the temperature drops, and the wind takes what fell in the fields and lays it right back across the road. HMS Hauling plans the second pass before the first one is finished, widening the drive and pushing the banks back where they cannot feed the lane again. Snow comes off the lots and goes where it will not block a door, a walking corner, or the spot the mail carrier has to reach. Walks are cleared by hand and treated so nothing glazes over when the sun drops behind the treeline. When a property holds through a whole afternoon of blow, that is the mark of the work.
