September on the hills above the reservoir is the finest stretch of the year for grass — cool nights, a little rain, lawns coming back from whatever August did to them. Schroeder Landscape works that window along Reservoir Road and the streets that climb west of it, mowing on a set schedule, trimming the slopes and wall edges, cutting a clean line where lawn meets walk. Clippings come off the drive so nothing gets tracked inside. As the oaks let go, yards get raked out and taken down to a tidy final cut. A lawn put away right in November is the one that comes back green in April.
