The National Road still runs through Brownstown, straight east and west, with Fayette County farmland opening out on either side of it. There is nothing between that ground and a January wind, so snow here does not so much fall as travel — across the fields, over the shoulders, into every lane and farm drive. Arrow Valley Landscaping plows and salts against it, then spends the warm half of the year on the other end of the work, mowing and trimming and keeping yards in shape while the corn comes up around them. It is a small village with long views, and a cleanly cut lawn shows from a long way off. So does a drive that has been opened.
