The oaks that gave this country its old savanna still stand around Bristol — wide, low-branched, throwing a shade that grass has to be coaxed into. Oak Savanna Landscape works underneath them, mowing on a schedule the shade can live with, easing the trimmer around trunks and surface roots without scarring bark, keeping the walks that thread between cut to a clean line. Late in October the acorns and leaves come down heavy, and the cleanup is its own kind of pleasure: a yard hauled back to open and orderly before the cold takes hold.
